The essential training I would provide to help them not just improve quickly, but improve in such a way that they can build progressively on what they do in each training session. Recently I put together a list of the things I would do were I to take on a new student from scratch. As a coach you want to help students develop in a way that promotes a long-term relationship with wushu, avoids injuries and builds a strong foundation for future training efforts. I think of this both in terms of my current development, but also in terms of when I’m coaching students. Looking back at my history with wushu I often find myself thinking about what I might have done differently if I knew then what I know now. ![]() Yongtao Xing has trained in the Shaolin Temple in China. From 2013 SWI has had a partnership with Yongtao Xing from Sweden Shaolin/Dragon Gate, who has many years international competition experience in addition to touring with international Chinese display teams. This is in addition to taolu where one trains traditional Shaolin forms. The training is made up of basic training with thorough stretching, basic techniques and strengthening and conditioning exercises. Shaolin kung fu is a balanced form of training, based on ancient proven methods in combination with modern exercises, that build agility, focus, strenth and self defence skills. Shaolin kung fu is one of the oldest martial arts systems in the world. It is a northern kung fu style derived from the Shaolin Temple in Henan province, China. The training is based on traditional Shaolin kung fu. ![]()
